David Riley Model Making

Practice Statement

David Riley Model Making is a professional model making and 3D printing service, supplying models not only to architectural practices and developers, but other industries such as film, TV, theatre, engineering and manufacturing companies and more. I am passionate about providing models that fulfill the client's brief and requirements by looking at the end use of the model and making sure we find the most appropriate approach for the project.

Models are uniquely placed for expressing a design to the viewer - their physical presence and tangibility form a deeper understanding of the design than can be expressed in 2D or digital representations. The design can be assessed by multiple people in real time and shown as a scale miniature the overall context and spatial layout can be truly appreciated.

One of the important aspects of model production is to assess the most appropriate materials and processes for the project in question. This ensures the best outcome rather than being tied to specific technology or finishes. As such, the models are often made through traditional methods, 3D printing, laser cutting, or a combination.
