Model making is a fundamental part of our design process - we make models to explore, test, and communicate ideas. All architects working within the practice are expected to work with models, and nearly every project that goes through the office has at least one model associated with it.
We make models at a variety of scales - from 1:500 through to 1:1 (where possible) and the models range from the abstract and diagrammatic to photorealistic, and test out massing, contextual relevance, the play of light and shadow (both inside and outside) materiality, sequence, structure, atmosphere and tectonics.
Whilst we make models as design development tools, we also find they are exceptional useful for engaging with clients, collaborators and members of the public - they are accessible in ways 2d representations cannot replicate.
All architects working within the practice are expected to work with models.
