Pilbrow & Partners

Practice Statement

Pilbrow & Partners was established 12 years ago and our modelshop has been a central part of design process from the outset for both high profile large scale commissions, such as our new building for M&S on Oxford Street or smaller scale projects, such as our house for David Gilmour on the Brighton and Hove seafront, sketch and presentation models closely integrated into our workflow.

Our modelmaking team are highly creative and we enjoy making models that reflect the spirit of the design.  For the Pink Floyd house - which uses a flush pointed white Roman brick - the modelshop made a cast plaster model to capture the monolithic quality of the building.

We are currently on site next to the Shard with an innovative 28-storey office tower.  It’s the first UK project by Dutch developers Edge Technology who have established a global reputation for cutting edge sustainability and wellbeing.  Edge London Bridge will be the most energy efficient multi-tenant office in the UK when it completes Q1 2026, with an EUI of 57kwhrs/m2 inclusive of tenant loads.  The building is BREEAM outstanding, WELL Platinum and WIRED platinum.

Models have been a critical tool in the scheme’s development which integrates structural timber and post-tensioned concrete up the full height of the tower.  The modelshop made a spectacular 1:75 paper and card model of the tower using recycled materials and we have recently completed a 1:5 study model of the terracotta elevation for which we commissioned ceramic elements of the façade from Dartmoor based ceramicist Abigail North.

At a time when printed models are becoming ever more ubiquitous, I think the evident craft and pleasure in making displayed in these models make a refreshing change.

Modelmaking Space and Resources

Architects ask in-house professional modelmakers to make models for them.

Our primary resource is our in-house professional modelmakers.  Architectural staff are involved in supporting the professional modelmaking team.  On occasion for specialist models where timing and resource is not available within our own modelshop we have commissioned third party models from long-standing contacts at Kandor and MGM Azur modelmakers.
