At PPAA, we understand physical and digital models as open mediums that give voice to intentions and allow ideas to unfold as a narrative of exploration. From the earliest stages, the model becomes a space where void, idea, and time converge, allowing the dialogue between the user and the environment to begin materializing. Physical models, crafted with simple materials, are conceived as instruments of exploration. More than representing, they seek to reveal: they help us understand void, scale, and the relationship between space and its natural or built context. Digital models, on the other hand, provide precision and flexibility, functioning as a bridge between the conceptual and the constructed. Through them, we anticipate spatial qualities, environmental conditions, and material performance, keeping the process open to new possibilities. In our work, the act of modeling is not limited to reaching a final form but to embracing the qualities of each medium to consolidate intentions, reaffirm decisions, and keep the process of discovery alive. Thus, the model whether physical or digital is not a finished product but an instrument of thought that allows us to conceive architecture as a continuous dialogue with context, space, and time.
At the studio, the model-making process begins with the development of the breakdown and detailed plan in-house, whether for a conceptual study or a project-specific application. The components are then outsourced for fabrication, either through laser cutting or 3D printing by a specialized third-party company.
