Studio Basic

Practice Statement

Studio Basic focuses on the production of high-quality models for competitions, presentations, and exhibitions, with a strong emphasis on precision and craftsmanship. Our work adapts to the needs of each client, whether project developers, architects, or private owners, however always capturing the creativity and principles designs are conceptualized with. By working across a wide range of materials and scales, we approach each maquette as more than an accurate representation of an architectural project but an informative and storytelling sculpture that lives on, communicates ideas and remains relevant, even after the designs' completion. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of modelmaking towards more sustainable practices, by exploring transformation, reusability, and material conscious production. By blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative technologies, Studio Basic seeks to return to the essentials of making, to go back to Basic.

Modelmaking Space and Resources

We believe in a strong collaborative process with all project partners in every model we produce. Our work spans Tenders, Presentations, and Exhibitions, across a wide range of clients and project types. In all cases, highlighting design concepts and storytelling is central to our approach. While at first we carefully consider scale, level of detail, and execution challenges, as makers, we place particular emphasis on creating models that are future-proof. Adaptability of purpose and material reuse are key principles in our practice, reflecting our vision of modelmaking as part of a closed-loop process within the design world. We focus on crafting models and research reusable materials such as wood, papers and nature based materials, as well as designing sculptural pieces that can evolve over time, allowing them to be adapted or transformed into new forms in the years to come.
