I build a single considered presentation model for each project I undertake. A self-imposed rule. The modelmaking process, for me, helps distil the idea of a project. Boil down the macro into its clearest form. The model helps me tease out a projects core values. Mass, scale, form, fenestration, the core language and tone that the project develops into. It’s less about the hands on ‘discovery’ or ‘testing’ when in the physical form. Digitally it’s a slow process and considered over time. I plan them in CAD and tweak them as the design develops. Sometimes I don’t get around to building them until after a project is complete because I am playing catchup, but they all serve the same important part of the design process during those earlier stages and remain as little simplified representations of the design journey travelled for each.
I am a sole practitioner; I build the models myself.
